Health Room
HEALTH ROOM/EMERGENCY INFORMATION
Please do not send your child to school if he/she is not feeling well or shows symptoms of illness. If your child is injured or becomes ill at school, the School Health Aide will notify you by phone. Be sure that all information on your Emergency Card is accurate and up to date (employment, residence, telephone numbers, and emergency contacts). When called, please make every effort to come as soon as possible.
ADMINISTERING MEDICATIONS
In general, school personnel are not authorized to administer any medication to students. However, in special cases, and with proper authorization from the doctor and Department of Health’s (DOH) Public Health Nurse, medication can be administered by the school health aide. The DOH’s Public Health Nurse oversees all school health aides. When a student needs to take prescribed medication during regular school hours, a request must be made using form SH-36, “Request for Administration/Storage of Medication in School.” This form is available at some doctors’ offices and in our health room.
Parents of children who experience unusual reactions (e.g., bee sting allergy) must develop a plan of action with the school.
